High voltage power supply

A specialised power supply was developed for a laboratory analysis instrument. The analysis technique involves two steps in which the consituents of a sample are separated by applying high voltage gradients. The first step required voltages up to 10kV at 5mA, the second step 1kV at 250mA.

Features of the power supply included:

• Integrated processor control and monitoring, via RS485 serial port
• Galvanically isolated outputs
• Measurement of load current
• Measurement of leakage current to ground
• Safety interlocks - duplicated and cross-cheched
